Sikkim offers fantastic views of the Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world; High altitude lakes such as Kechoperi, the Wish fulfiller; Sanctuaries for Orchids and Rhododendrums and Birds; Tea Gardens ; In short 'Great Trekking Content'.
After a must visit to Gangtok, Pemayangtse one can take a three night trek with stay in camps to view some breathtaking sights of the region, the trek diversion for a minimum of four would read as follows:
Day 01 : Bagdogra - Gangtok
Arrive Bagdogra airport. Transfer to Gangtok 112 kms away 5 1/2-hrs drive along river Teesta, stopping along the way for frequent sightseeing stops. Overnight at Gangtok.
Day 02 : Gangtok - Rumtek
Sightseeing of Gangtok- Rumtek Monastery, Research Institute of Tibetology, bazaars etc.
Day 03 : Gangtok - Phudong - Gangtok (optional)
After breakfast, day return to Phudong Monastery (2 hrs drive) with picnic tea / snacks on route. Overnight at Gangtok (optional)
Day 04 : Gangtok - Themi Tea Estate - Pemayangtse(West Sikkim)
After breakfast, 5hrs drive to Pemayangtse (2985m). Picnic tea/coffee/snacks en route OR Lunch party at the tea estate. En route visit the famous Swiss cheese factory. Overnight at Pemayangtse.
Day 05 : Pemayangtse - Vershay
17 kms drive to Damthang and 12 kms/4 hrs gradual soft trek to Vershay (3060M) near Indo-Nepal border, a paradise of Rhododendron and a sanctuary of high altitude birds during December to mid -March. Overnight in tented accommodation at Camp.
Day 06 : Vershay
Bird watching, enjoying glorious mountain views visiting the Rhododendron sanctuary. Overnight in tented accommodation at Camp.
Day 07 : Vershay - Phur Cha Cho
Trek to Helly - 4kms/1 hr and then drive 68 kms 3.5 hrs to Phur Cha Cho (Sulphur water spring) on the bank of river Rangeet. Afternoon, visit the ancient and Holy caves at Khandu-Samphu. Overnight in tented accommodation at Camp.
Day 08 : Phur Cha Cho - Mirik
49km 2 hrs drive from Darjeeling, Mirik is surrounded by a magnificent lake, boating on this is one attraction, other being horse riding. Visit the best tea garden in the region and buy or taste delicately flavored teas at bargain prices. Also visit the sacred Monastery established by his Eminence BOKAR RIMPOCHE - Mirik is situated 15 kms from Nepal border.
Overnight at Mirik.
Day 09 : Mirik - Bagdogra
After breakfast, drive 52 kms to Bagdogra airport for departure.
